Tuesday, Jan. 16th

We finished the excerpt from Milton’s Paradise Lost today.  We looked at some art that was inspired by the work, and we went over a few extra passages from other parts of the text.  Next class, you will be sculpting your chosen passage to focus on the DETAILS.

We did a little plickers review of sample multiple choice questions you will see in part one of the test.  The Renaissance Review Test will take place on Monday, Jan. 22nd.  Given how you did on the multiple choice questions today, you know how much you need to study, so please start reviewing the texts.

Friday, Jan. 12th

We continued reading and discussing Paradise Lost, getting up to line 191.  In our discussion, we did a review of some key figures in classical mythology, and looked at how they figured in Paradise Lost.  We are currently comparing Satan’s rallying speech to those of coaches in sports movies like Any Given Sunday, and next class, we’ll start with Aragorn’s rallying speech in Lord of the Rings.

The RENAISSANCE REVIEW TEST will likely take place on Monday, Jan. 22nd.  It wouldn’t hurt to start reviewing now.

Wednesday, Jan. 10th

After completing the school-wide Compass Survey, we carried on with Milton’s Paradise Lost.  We went over the features of EPICS, and read lines 1-22, identifying these as the “invocation to the Muse.”  We are currently getting some background information by reading Genesis 2-3 from the King James Bible and relating this text to Paradise Lost.

We shall continue with this next class.
