Friday, Oct. 28th

We read, discussed, watched and journalled on I.ii.76-86 to I.iii.81.  Everyone got their letters today, and those who were willing, shared some advice they got from their loved ones.  We are in the midst of comparing these pieces of wisdom to the advice that Polonius gives to Laertes in I.iii..

We will add to the performance journal on this scene next class.

Thursday, Oct. 13th

We finished off the introduction to the Renaissance, and started working on SONNETS.  In groups of three, you were assigned a sonnet to study and present to the class.  Figure out WHAT it is about…the theme, the problem, the solution, the context… and observe the writing STYLE.  How are these ideas conveyed?  What type of sonnet is it?  How does the form complement the content?  What “artifice” or “ornamentation” is there in terms of LITERARY DEVICES?  What connotations are used?

We have a treat next class as Mr. Wallace has invited us to the drama studio to watch Girls Like That, starring our own Fiona Ho!   We will meet in the classroom before heading to the play.

You will present your sonnets on Wednesday, Oct. 19th.

We then started a discussion on THE RENAISSANCE and the sonnet.

Your CHAUCER ASSIGNMENT is due next class, Oct. 11th.
