Monday, June 11th

We read and discussed  Yeats’ s “The Second Coming,” Thomas’ “Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night,” Atwood’s “Disembarking at Quebec,” and Smith’s “Pretty,” bringing us to the end of the course readings list.

There are a number of you who are currently not passing Term 3 because of missing assignments (see the board in A121), in particular, the Oscar Wilde assignment.  You must bring up your mark with the remaining assignments.

You should be well on your way with the “thug notes” video as it is due on Wednesday, June 13th.  As the wifi is unreliable, it would be best if you could bring the video on a usb.

The final test will take place on Friday, June 15th.

Wednesday, May 30th

After discussing the “thug notes” video you are each making, we decided that we would NOT need class time to work on this.  It is due on June 13th.  If you require equipment/ green screens, etc., we can arrange for this at lunch or after school.

We looked at some of Wilde’s witty quotations, and then continued watching and taking notes on The Importance of Being Ernest.  We will finish this on Friday and your notes are due then.  You should have FIFTEEN quotations from the play.  Identify WHAT ASPECT OF VICTORIAN SOCIETY is SATIRIZED, and the humour technique used in each example.

The final test is on June 15th, and it covers everything from Beowulf to “Pretty.”

Monday, May 28th

Please prepare to film your “thug notes” on Friday, June 1st.  This is the only class we will have to use the green screens.  You can take the footage and edit it at home to present on June 13th.

We read and discussed Matthew Arnold’s “Dover Beach” (650) today, and started Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Ernest (712).   For this play, you will note FIFTEEN aspects of Victorian society that Wilde satirizes.  For each item, include a quotation from the play, and name the humour technique he uses. I will collect your observations when we get to the end of the play.
