Wednesday, May 16th

We are in the midst of watching Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre while noting motifs such as the “mad woman in the attic,” gothic elements, the “bachelor,” the “Byronic Hero,” proto-feminist elements, and the setting as character.   We shall discuss your observations and continue with the film next class.

Viewing a film is another means of “reading a text.”  If you missed class, you have missed a key text.  You will have to make up for it on your own time and by your own means. My advice is NOT TO SKIP CLASS.
